Clore 12 Fellow Rhiannon White’s AHRC research investigates the inherent social conditions that exist in the creative industries today.

Social conditions like geographic location and social class can influence and determine a career in the arts. Often these conditions and contradictions serve to reinforce class division. CLASS the elephant in the room is a culmination of Rhiannon’s research that asked: what needs to change in an industry that distances itself from working class people, culturally, socially and economically? Delivered as a live performance debate, the piece is based in part on auto-ethnographic study, and also on the testimony captured in community workshops and national interviews. The piece offers personal testimony on working in a sector dominated by white, middle-class, males.
